"KNIGHTS OF HONOR"

Classroom Procedures

As in real life, there are procedures in our classrooms. Here are most of the procedures that all students will be expected to follow each day in Mrs. Alas’ and Ms. Facio’s classrooms. Each procedure will be explained to students in concrete terms and will be demonstrated step by step. Rehearsal of procedures will continue until it becomes a routine for all students in both classrooms.

1. Entering the classrooms:
• Enter in a quiet, calm manner and be seated in your desk.
• Take out any homework assignments that were assigned the night before.
• Begin working on warm-up activity that will be on the front board.
• If you have been absent, check the “I Was Absent” Binder. Your teacher will
return it when she completes attendance.
• If you are tardy and have a tardy excuse pass from another staff member on campus, enter the room quietly and place it in the designated area and return to your seat quietly.
• If you are tardy and do not have an excused pass, sit down in your seat quietly. Three tardies will result in a “U” in work habits for that grading period.
*One tardy can be worked off if you make it to class on time 10 days in a row.*
*You are tardy if you are not in your seat when the bell rings.*

2. Listening and responding to questions:
• When the teacher is speaking, students are quiet and listening.
• When a fellow student is speaking, the teacher and the class are quiet and listening.
• When you are speaking, you will need to speak loud enough so that the entire class can hear you.
• Always use appropriate, respectful language.
• When writing answers – DO NOT USE RED INK!
3. Headings of papers:
• Students must head their papers properly in order to receive credit and/or points. The following information is required:
Last Name, First Name
Subject
Period/Hour
Date
Title or page #

4. Restroom:
• Students typically will be allowed to use the restroom 10 times total throughout the year. Each student will receive 5 passes per semester from each teacher.
• If the student does not have the pass, they can request an I.O.U or lose 10 points on an assignment. Any unused passes can be turned in at the end of the semester for extra credit points.
• Restroom breaks should be limited, however, and used for emergency situations only.
5. Coming to attention:
• Students raise their hand silently when they want the teacher’s attention.
• The same is true when the teacher wants the student’s undivided attention.
• When the teacher raises her hand or asks for students attention (when the students are working in groups) students are to expect that it is “My Turn” and “Give Me Five”
  • Eyes on the speaker
  • Mouth quiet
  • Being still
  • Hands free
  • Listening
6. End of class period:
• The teacher dismisses the students, not the bell.
• Once the bell has rung, the students will wait quietly to be dismissed.
• Students are to leave the room in a quiet and orderly manner.
7. Making the grade:
• Your grade will reflect the marked grades of assignments, homework, quizzes, and tests.
• If you ever have questions regarding your grades, see your teacher before or after class and we can discuss it.
8. Behavior goals:
• Your behavior should reflect responsible choices based on the classroom rules.
• Our expectations are incredibly high in terms of your behavior. You will behave appropriately in our classrooms!
Rules:

1. Have respect for each other. Be kind – ALWAYS.
2. Come to class on time and be prepared to learn.
3. Follow all of the Northridge Middle School rules.
4. Be responsible for yourself and others
5. Listen and ask questions.

Consequences for neglecting daily class rules:

1. Verbal Warning
2. Additional Verbal Warning and 1 minute after class
3. 2 minutes after class and a behavior journal will be written at this time. You will also be sent to Mrs. Alas’ class and sit in a designated area.
4. Phone call home and conference with your counselor.
-This will occur after three behavior journals or when we feel it is necessary.
- Lunch, nutrition or after school detention (10 minutes) may all be given at this point. Serious infractions may result in immediate removal from the classroom.

Rewards:

We give constant praise and recognition. We acknowledge positive behavior and work habits in class. We send home daily notes if written in IEPs and look forward to having students acknowledged at Team Assemblies each month. Students will also receive certificates of appreciation and improvement when appropriate.
